Creative Resistance
When government officials are close-minded and media coverage is limited then it is time to call in reinforcements. The principals of The Feline Resistance! are ready to assist local volunteers with a variety of creative techniques designed to dramatically increase media attention.
In addition to empowering local cat defenders, other feline advocates can be brought into the battle. Since opponents of TNR can access this website we will not elaborate on our specific tactics, however, local cat defenders are welcome to contact us for more information.
The Legal Option
Depending upon the circumstances, there are often legal actions that can be taken to delay and even stop government agents from capturing and killing outdoor cats. Again, it is preferable to address the problem sooner rather than later.
There are capable attorneys in almost every town who are willing to fight for felines in the legal arena. Sometimes just the threat of a lawsuit brings out the reasonable side of government officials since the process is time-consuming and the discovery procedure can uncover embarrassing information.
This is another area where The Feline Resistance! can help. We gather information on a regular basis from attorneys throughout the nation who are engaged in animal rights cases. This information combined with our other reports can be helpful to local attorneys. There is also the possibility that foundation support can be generated to assist with the costs of a court case.
Pro-active Defense
For caretakers of free-roaming cats who are not yet under attack by the American Bird Conservancy coalition, we strongly recommend you take defensive action immediately.
In a public relations war, the battlefield is the collective mind of government officials and public opinion. The physical assault against cats is a manifestation of a drastic change in attitude.
Before the American Bird Conservancy (ABC) infects citizens and public officials in your area with their misinformation and anti-cat propaganda, it is essential to educate with facts and truth.
Get the word out that ABC’s Cats Indoors! campaign is not about “protecting” cats or “keeping them safe“. Inform the public as well as government officials that the real objective of the campaign is to eliminate all outdoor cats through either adoption or eradication. Tell them that these goals are unrealistic. There are millions of feral cats in the U.S., most of which are too wild to become pets, so only a very small percentage will be adopted. Most will be trapped and killed.
Let them know that when feral cats are permanently removed from a colony, others take their place and reproduce at an even higher rate. This is called “the vacuum effect” and it is a scientific, verifiable fact. The only way to solve feral cat overpopulation is through trap-neuter-return. Cite examples of the extraordinary successes that have resulted from properly implemented TNR programs.
Tell local government officials that it will cost taxpayers considerably less to trap-neuter and return cats than to trap-house and kill them. Encourage them to visit Alley Cat Allies’ website for accurate information about feral cats and TNR.
